Spring Fling Contest 2024
As a DC-gal, writing anything new in the month of March is typically inspired by spring time, sunshine, and our infamous Japanese cherry blossom trees. I also returned from Japan only days ago, where I got to see the cherry blossoms beginning to bloom! In a short 8 days, I was able to see the cities of Tokyo, Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, Hiroshima and Miyajima Island. Check out some of my favorite snapshots of the beautiful buds & blossoms!
Last year, for Kaitlyn Leann Sanchez & Ciara O’Neal’s writing contest #SpringFlingKidLit, my story, BLOSSIE, was based on a young cherry blossom bud, wanting to have her moment. But, this year, I thought id mix my love of springtime with a dash of DC politics.
Here are the rules for the annual Spring Fling Kid Lit Contest: Write a spring-themed story, inspired by a GIF in 150 words or less for children 12 and under, with no illustration notes.
Hope you enjoy my 2024 entry, coming through in the final hours of the contest, eeep!

Sign Here x_____ for Spring

I’m sending a bill
to Capitol Hill
for Spring to spring forever.
The competition is slim,
I’m not too concerned.
DC loves cherry blossoms…
that is confirmed.
The other three seasons:
Winter, Summer, Fall,
are not without problems, as I can recall.
Summer bring sunburns and unnerving heat.
Popsicles drip right down to your feet!
In Fall, leaves tumble and drift toward the ground.
Plus, there’s too many
s c a r y costumes around!
Winter is cold and gloomy and gray.
Snow might fall for a week or a day!
But, spring…
Oh, spring!
Her beauty brings flowers.
Rainbows, warmth,
baseball,
sun showers!
So senators and congress,
Sign here → ___________ to say yes.
Spring’s number one…
you’ll have no regrets!
