Kids' Choice KidLit 2023

It’s time for one of my favorite writing contests: @KaileiPew’s KIDS’ CHOICE KIDLIT 2023!

A kid-lit contest where the stories are judged by 290+ KIDS! (Which as a 1st-grade teacher, makes my heart so happy.)

The deets:

  • Write a PB, MG, or YA story, 200-words or less that you think kids would love

  • Post to Kailei’s google form between January 26-28, 2023 (linked below)

  • Add a blurb or your whole story to the comments section of the official submission page for others to see

  • Winners will be announced around March 20th

This year, Kailei is asking for donations to give thanks to these awesome kiddo-judges. If you’d like to support, donate through her shop, or through Venmo: @Kailei-Pew . No amount is too small!

Without further ado…here is my entry for this year!

JUST A LIL’ TARADIDDLE

By: Alicia Meyers

WC: 187

I told Mama

just a lil’

Just a lil’ taradiddle.

A sprinkle of the story.

An itty-bitty fib.

See, on the kitchen table

sat a sprinkled donut.

A chocolate, sprinkled donut.

Totally alone.

I heard it cry,

“LOOK AT ME!

I AM SO DELICIOUS!”

So, when I heard…

“ANNABELLE MARIE BENNIGAN,

Come here THIS INSTANT!”

I had to tell Mama

just a lil’

Just a lil’ taradiddle.

A sprinkle of the story…

An itty-bitty fib.

“THE DINOSAUR!

It ROARED!

It RAWRED!”

“GIMME THAT DONUT!”

I told it,

“ABSOLUTELY-NOT-NO-WAY!

That donut’s off-limits!”

“A dinosaur?” Mama asked.

“YES! Then…

THE GORILLA!

IT GRRRR’D

IT GROWLED,”

“GIMME THAT DONUT!”

I told it,

“ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY NOT!

That donut’s off-limits!”

But, they lunged toward the plate.

I tried to separate!

But instead…

My face,

went straight

toward

the…

I licked the last of the chocolate from my lips.

A rainbow sprinkle dropped to the floor.

“GO TO YOUR ROOM, ANNABELLE!

NO MORE FIBS!”

I told Mama

just a lil’

Just a lil’ taradiddle.

A sprinkle of the story…

An itty-bitty fib.

I PROMISE!

[Dinosaur] C’mon, Annabelle.

[Gorilla] Everyone knows, donuts can’t talk!
