Happy “Valentiny” Day
There is nothing this girl loves more than Valentine’s Day (Okay…maybe Christmas!)
I hope everyone has their house decked out in hearts and is using today as an excuse to eat chocolate truffles, like me.
Susanna Hill is hosting yet another fun-themed writing contest: The 6th Annual Valentiny Writing Contest. Read more about it here! https://susannahill.com/2021/02/12/be-brave-my-heart-the-6th-annual-valentiny-contest-is-here/
The story must be:
1) About Valentine’s Day
2) Written in 214 words or less (clever, clever)
3) Based on someone who shows bravery
This story is for my first grade kiddies, who always bring the most special homemade valentines <3
Thanks for reading!
Jitterbees
By: Alicia Meyers
(WC: 212)
My jitterbees have a mind of their own.
They come as they please.
Fickle, but familiar.
They make my tummy flutter.
If only I could decide...
Red marker or glitter pen?
My palms sweat.
My ears itch.
My heart thumps.
I close my eyes
Breathe in deep.
And imagine my jitterbees fading away.
Like magic,
they disappear.
Until…
I walk into school.
The echoes of the hallway stir them up again.
My jitterbees flutter in my tummy.
I picture everyone with a silly hat.
Giggle at the sight.
And imagine my jitterbees flying away.
Like magic,
they disappear.
Until…
I see the decorations, bags and treats.
I clutch my backpack.
My teacher says it’s time.
My jitterbees take over.
I count back from ten.
But, they flutter!
I wiggle my toes.
But, they flutter more!
Please, jitterbees! Go away!
I try everything I know.
I close my eyes and breathe.
I think silly thoughts.
Count back from ten.
Wiggle my toes.
Squeeze my teddy tight,
and imagine them fizzling away.
Little by little, they disappear.
I step closer and hold out my card.
“Happy Valentine’s Day!”
Her cheeks blush.
Her smile stretches from ear to ear.
She squeezes me in a hug.
I love my teacher.
And like magic,
my jitterbees disappear.
